Flashback Friday: Alanna: The First Adventure - Tamora Pierce

Flashback Friday celebrates books from our past - anything published more than 5 years ago counts!
It is hosted by Swoony Boys Podcast & Fiction Fare and I love it because it's not only the new releases that deserve our attention.

Greg over at Book Haven recently did a post about Nostalgia Reads which once more got me thinking about books that I read in my childhood and have re-read as an adult.

I adore the Tortall series by Tamora Pierce and I will be one of the first racing in with my pre-orders when she published more in the series (it's about Numair, the early years!!!!!).

These are some of her first books that I ever read and I love them even now as an adult. Maybe it's my teenage self rating them, but there's so much merit in these books and some great adventures and they show young girls how powerful they can be and how great men will support them and allow them to be the amazing women they will grow up to me.

Alanna: The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness #1)

“From now on I’m Alan of Trebond, the younger twin. I’ll be a knight.”

And so young Alanna of Trebond begins the journey to knighthood. Alanna has always craved the adventure and daring allowed only for boys; her twin brother, Thom, yearns to learn the art of magic. So one day they decide to switch places: Disguised as a girl, Thom heads for the convent; Alanna, pretending to be a boy, is on her way to the castle of King Roald to begin her training as a page. But the road to knighthood is not an easy one. As Alanna masters the skills necessary for battle, she must also learn to control her heart and to discern her enemies from her allies. Filled with swords and sorcery, adventure and intrigue, good and evil, Alanna’s first adventure begins—one that will lead to the fulfillment of her dreams and make her a legend in the land.

Have you read anything by Tamora Pierce? Do you prefer her Tortall books or her Emelan/Circle books?
